Super pair of Carved marble Antique planter/cups

Super pair of Carved marble Antique planter/cups

They are truely wonderful items with alot of years behind them easily 100 years but could be later 1800s or ?…They were purchased out of an estate in Newyork but there original origin is not known…Those of you familiar with the work shown on this fine pair of carved marble pieces might be able to figure out there origin,,,I would appreciate any info you can send me…They are all hand carved from solid pieces of white marble with a light grey design..They have been painted in spots to highlight some of the detail…Alot of the paint has come off and I recommend a fine cleaning and then polishing …Or leave as is they have a wonderful primitive look to them …There is damage to 1 of the tops as picture shows .A few pieces broken off and then 1 of the bases was broken and looks like a real crappy patching over to keep it together..When they are on opposite sides with some distance between them you cant notice the difference that much in the base area…Again if you want to restore them they would chip off the patchwork drill a rod in marble and then patchit with a marble filler ..Also the top can be restored if you chose other wise keep them as is and think it over before any restoration..Once a plate or some shrub is put in planter alot of the damage is hidden…You can have 1 perfect one and then 1 with the damage its all the way you want to set them together they are matching…They stand appxt 46 inches tall and 33 inches wide …The base is 16×16 and was set is some type of compound so they would not fall over..This can be scraped off the bottom of bases……They have alot of carved detail with lion heads which are 12×6 each and the faces with pointed ears which I do not know the meaning of but they are 7×5 inches each…There is also alot of heavily carved grapes vines /leaves /ribbons/roses and alot more…under the top cups rim is all carved stuff running around the entire piece..They are truly works of art even with the damage suffered over the years they still are the best carved items I have ever purchased…Again let me state this is all hand carved out of solid marble..The center part and the top rim was hand chiseled into to form the opening..As picture shows with all the chip marks …..I like them as they are with all the many many years of weathering being shown on them…They are in 3 pieces each the base the middle and top…They are also very heavy…My guess is between 350-500lbs per planter when stacked…….Please email or call Vinny for any other info 1-631-300-7403 thanks
