Loft style in interior design
An apartment or house in loft-style is a very spacious, bright room with high ceilings (up to 6.5 meters) with floor-to-ceiling windows. Usually loft is a former factory building, warehouse, or other non-residential room, converted into a full apartment or house. Apartment with loft dimensions can sometimes be found in a special block of flats or residential complex. This type of housing is quite popular in Europe and the United States.
Distinctive features of loft-style
Absolutely simple, spacious rooms filled with light are the main distinctive feature of loft. Usually loft is decorated in hi-tech style with the addition of industrial style or light eclecticism.
Loft offers to get rid of all the excess and let in more air space, cool and light. Even if the windows in your apartment are not from floor to ceiling, you can still increase the amount of light. To do this, make window frames with a narrow binding, cover the slopes of windows and ceiling with reflective paint, add a light floor and plenty of glass and mirror surfaces. For example, you can use a desk or coffee table with glass top, through which the light passes freely. But all pretentious simplicity can be diluted with classic ceiling cornices, moldings and baseboards, as well as chandeliers – this will be enough to keep a balance between the simple and easy loft and cosy familiar classics. Walls can detect the brickwork or have a smooth and even surface.
Loft does not mean the absence of carpets, although they absorb light. But it is better to choose cold greyish tints of carpet in this style. Loft involves clean and cold, sometimes contrasting colors and shades, so this style will help you to increase the small apartment and even blur the boundaries of the room a little.
Loft is usually a single space, it can combine the kitchen-living room, library, study and even the bedroom (it is often placed in the open part of the second floor, which is above the kitchen area or sofa). In your apartment you can also combine multiple functions in the same room.
How to make the loft space comfortable?
What is the best way to add comfort in cold loft-style apartment? Of course, these are open bookshelves or cabinets for decoration items. Such shelves can be made of wood with warm tones. In fact, the more such bookshelves and books on them, the better they will look. Book covers are a great bright spot for the apartment.
In the bedroom you can afford warmer color combinations. In the bedroom, unlike in the rest of loft apartments, you can afford thick curtains, carpet, furniture made of warm wood, bedspread or blanket of brown or purple shades. Add also bedroom lamps and books since you spend time in the bedroom just before having a rest, so it is very important to ensure maximum comfort.
Lighting in loft-style apartment
As for lighting in loft-style apartments, here you can afford a great variety: stand lamps on high tripods, cozy table lamps in fabric lampshades or, conversely, lamps with bright metallic or chromed shades, spotlights, ceiling lights and so on.
At the stage of decorating the room, you can fully rely on your personal taste, since the simplicity of loft will favorably accentuate any decor item. Add bright colors in the apartment with the help of paintings, textiles, books and magazines. Now you can experiment with color and form, as unusual combinations only benefit to this compact and quiet interior.
