Crystal Decor and Transparent Materials
The refined interior of past years was different with abundance of crystal. Living rooms were adorned with statues, vases, sets of transparent material. They resembled the objects created of ice, which inexplicably took the form of classical decor. People prized crystal sculptures and other products, which created fantastic and majestic atmosphere in the room. This can’t be said about the modern representatives of humanity. Crystal is losing its popularity. We will try to restore its good reputation.
Crystal or quartz?
The origins of the word “crystal” are to be found in Greek and in the records of the ancient scholar Teofrasa, in fact, he gave the official name of rock crystal, which was translated into Greek as «krystallos». You probably noticed that the word is very similar to Russian “crystal”. For a long time, cut-glass and crystal meant the same thing. Yet there was the word quartz, which was also characterized as an unusual rock. However, all this was in the past. Today, transparent quartz or crystal are called cut-glass.
Crystal is used by people since ancient times. The Greeks made of it shamanistic talismans. The transparent material was used to make seals, vessels, goblets, ornaments. Ancient people believed that once the gods themselves quenched the thirst by sparkling wine, drinking it out of crystal bowls. It’s not hard to guess that the titled person of the time attributed it to his account. They prohibited the simple people to use crystal ware.
Crystal has been given another role in history. With its help the priests made a fire to sacrifice to the gods. They often used crystal lens, as a disinfectant. Until now, scientists are finding evidence that the Roman and Tibetan healers cauterized bleeding wounds, guiding on them sunbeams through crystal.
