Novica Inca Papier Mache Masks

Traditionally worn for sacrificial rites, these Inca masks were considered amulets to communicate with the apus (gods) and ask for their favor. Peruvian artist Jaime Zapata Espinoza handcrafts them from a combination of papier maché and plaster of Paris. The masks are accented with jute headdresses. Small, 5.5″H. Large, 8.5″H.
