Nendo interior for Japanese department store Seibu

Nendo interior for Japanese department store Seibu

In Tokyo’s Seibu department store a department of women’s clothes and accessories by luxury brands was opened, the interior of which was designed by Nendo design studio.

The third floor of the trading giant is completely devoted to “modern luxury” – in Compolux department they sell brands not for mass consumers. Oki Sato and his design bureau regularly cooperate with Seibu, this time they had to design and arrange a space where clothing and accessories by Philip Lima, Sonia Rykiel, Acne and other luxury brands adjoin, but each of them still has its own area.

Collection and the assortment of the giant boutique are renewed with dizzying frequency and speed, so the interior should match – it should be modular and mobile, so that it can be easily transformed appropriately.

Designers have found the inspiration for this interior in a wrought-iron fence, which is traditionally used in European cities to twine parks. Small sections to the extent of openwork lattices, which turned out to be fine slats for hangers with priceless dresses and jackets, were hung from the ceiling. And although every brand has its own pattern of forged sections secured, they can be moved across the whole area of Compolux floor.

Stationary in the interior are only the fitting and high wall, which were used by designers to enclose walls around the whole perimeter of the trading hall.

European parks inspired Japanese designers and everything else in this bright pearl-gray interior is functional design, shelves, park benches and tables made of bleached board, plank tables and arched spans between the halls. The floor draws particular attention to itself: mottled herringbone of gray is recruited from the most conventional plastic laminate.

Fitting rooms are more like cozy alcoves with soft and warm ceiling lighting, not typical for conventional booths. On the walls of yellow and gray-blue rooms with mirrors artificial ivy of different shades winds, and lighting can be changed to natural to make sure the outfit looks gorgeous in any light.
