Chris Kabel Comes Up With A Circular Bench

Dutch designer Chris Kabel presented a circular bench, called Shared Space, which was made of a solid ten-wood beams. This simple but innovative invention is intended to create an atmosphere in which “the outside world temporarily disappears”.

At first, wooden beam was split into many parts of the trapeziform, and after assembled, but in the form of a ring with a diameter of three meters, has maintained a continuous wood pattern. Part of the circular benches is fixed with metal plates.

Circular form, in author’s opinion, is very ergonomic and is suitable for most public spaces.

Outside the circle you can remain anonymous. Sitting on a bench with your back to the center of the circle, you can read books, chat, watch the passers-by or just think about something else.

But once you get to the circle, you immediately become part of the atmosphere created by people already sitting there. The designer compares this process with a joint visit to the sauna, but without the nudity and humidity.
