Apartments, Converted From An Old Chapel: ZECC Archtitecten Project
Someone probably will think that for the designers involved in similar projects, there is nothing sacred. After all, if you remember what kind of reaction people have had because of design products from old, unwanted books, one can only imagine how the community responds to the information that somewhere in the Netherlands in the province of Utrecht, the studio ZECC Archtitecten redesigned a house… from the old chapel.
The house has turned out excellent: bright, spacious, with stained glass windows, high ceilings and large windows.
And considering the structural features, it is easy to guess what a difficult task the designers put in front of ourselves.
So, firstly, it should let more light in the room, without replacing the conventional stained glass windows. Well, secondly, to paint the walls a dazzling white, very light, which only you could find that seemed the walls radiate light. Available in the chapel of the premises turned into a living room with beautiful stained glass windows, and a small organ in the center, a kitchen-dining room and bedroom. Darkest rooms in this two-level apartment are only toilet and bathroom.
Does any want to move into this house, which was once a temple of the Lord, is unknown. But we know that it – not the first church, which turned into a house. In the same Holland has been the practice of such transformations, and it was not just about living churches, but also factories, bunkers, water tower…
