Perfectly “Stable” Armchair-Winner Rrround
To create this cheerful colored chair called Rrround, Finnish students at Lahti University of Applied Sciences, young designers Arttu Kuisma and Janne Melajoki used 250 square meters of recycled materials, namely, carpets, remaining after numerous exhibitions, installations and displays.
Armchair Rrround won the grand prize, amount to 6000 Euros in the competition of young designers Habitare design competition this year. The theme of the contest this time was the use of recycled materials in the manufacture of items for beautification and decoration of public spaces in limited production cycles.
The chairman of the jury, the famous Swiss designer and Professor Alfredo Haberli, noted that the concept chair Rrround is so obvious and flawless, that the result of translating simply nothing to add nor as a commentary or as an element of refinement.
Dimensions of ingeniously simple products are 950x100x1300 mm. To produce the prototype of the presented object in the competition was used carpet of Finnish importer Kukila Oy. Appearance and stylistic trend of the manufacture, of course, can be changed using the color palette of materials.
According to the designers, such armchairs can be made from left over from the exhibitions floor coverings, which are often thrown away or obliterated after one usage. At the moment, the authors of the winning products are looking for ways to manufacture small series based on its “sustainable” in all senses of the invention, which can be widely used in indoor public purpose and not just only in them.
