French Style of Decoration
France has always been famous for its people, who are characterized by ingenuity and passion towards everything elegant. Maybe that is why in the country of the great kings interior items are still being created, which gain worldwide fame. However, let’s not bur into far in advance, and let’s see what décor means brought fame to France in the past. Who knows, maybe these objects of interior are in your house right now.
Bergere
Bergere appeared in 1725. This is a wonderful armchair with the rounded back, which smoothly passes into the arms, due to which the furniture doesn’t have sharp corners and rough forms. Softness of these series are broaden by a decorative pillow on a low seat.
Jacquard
Jacquard is a kind of noble fabrics, which was invented in France. It was named after the man who invented a special machine to produce tissues with large patterns in 1800. Jacquard distinguishes with its floral pattern and is used for the design of upholstered furniture. Curtains and bedspreads for matrimonial bed in the French style are sewed from luxurious fabrics. If there are means of décor from jacquard material in your interior, therefore you are on your way to create royal design.
Geridon
You must have seen geridon in St-Petersburg palaces made in the French Empire style. It became popular in France in 17th century. Geridon is a table, which looks more like a high stand. It’s leg is in the form of a column, usually decorated with carving and other decorative elements. This may be an ornament, bronze lining, toned flute. Geridon was made not only in the past century. It is popular even today, as a French style. But it is only used in the spacious rooms, where there is a place for this piece of furniture that mostly plays decorative role.
Dressuar
Dressuar is a good friend of table furniture that French people love. It is a cupboard, excellent interior decorating. Of course, usual ceramic or earthenware jugs are placed behind its door. The French appreciate all the most beautiful and graceful, so dressuar often fills out porcelain tableware. By the way, it is an inherent part of the Rococo style.
Anyhow, let’s go back to the dressuar itself. Saints are often depicted on dressuar by the help of thin carving. It could be St. Barbara, St. Mary Magdalene, and St. Catherine. On the leaves of dressuar scenes of the Magi and other biblical scenes are painted. Sometimes Gothic patterns, arches, lace thread, elements of the Renaissance can be detected in the dining room.
As you can see dressuar, geridon, jacquard and other means of decoration, which were invented in France, are in demand in Russia. They exist not only in palaces, museums, but in many homes, apartments contemporaries, who see themselves as part aristocrats or just connoisseurs of high taste.
