Modern Kitchen Design: Materials and Colours

We will continue the theme of high technology and modern cuisine with the story about the materials. The most common material for tabletops and wall panels is a laminate. It is valuable because it is able to simulate expensive natural materials at an affordable price: stone, wood, leather. This laminate is well tolerated by all the cooking workload. (Laminate flooring is also used for decoration of facades.) More fashionable are those of composite materials used to make tabletops and sinks. Composite insulating materials composed of solid filler, for example, granite chips and binder, for example, resins (acrylic), that’s why they combine the best properties of both materials.

Tabletops made of composite materials are manufactured custom-made and installed strictly according to the place; you can order a monolithic slab immediately to the table under the sink. These tabletops are performed by casting, so it is possible to do beading, swings, and glove elements (such as coasters). A natural stone (marble, granite), had once been in vogue, now they have replaced, because it is very expensive and impractical, fragile and very heavy. The most common composite material is Corian heat-resistant. The hardness of Corian is similar to the hardness of marble, and weighs slightly more than the foam. Corian consists of acrylic and white clay; it is absolutely devoid of pores, that’s why it’s easy to clean. Corian is heat-resistant, it is easy to restore in case of scratches. Tabletops from Corian have an extensive range of colors (about a hundred flowers). Tabletops and stainless steel sink are not out of fashion. Their surface is covered with embossed, so the trace of touch and water droplets on them were not visible.
