Fireplace Screen

Bought screen to place around wall furnace so crawling grand-daughter would not be tempted to touch hot furance grate. Turns out fire screen got just as hot since it is of heavy metal. If I place it further back so it does not get too hot to the touch, then it leaves gaps on the sides where she can crawl in and touch furnace anyway.
