Using White Color in the Interior Design
Perhaps white is the most complex and multifaceted color of all that you can choose to decorate. In every culture white color has a special place: somewhere it’s a symbol of purity and innocence, somewhere it’s the color of death. But in any case, white color in the interior is always refined and elegant.
In addition to the cultural background, white color also allows the interior designer to realize a lot of boldest fantasies, makes it possible to visually enlarge the space, use unusual decisions in the decor.
Interiors of white were particularly popular in Europe and America in 20-30-ies, when white walls and furniture were symbols of the aristocratic lifestyle of the house owners, a sign of their wealth and sophistication. In minimalist interiors, in 60’s white color was used in a totally new quality: in houses with a minimum of furniture and decoration it was intended to emphasize rationality and conciseness of spacious rooms. The Scandinavian interiors always gravitated toward the white. They are characterized by simple and clean lines, bright and vivid colors, natural materials. White stands here as an expression of comfort, tranquility and naturalness.
White has not lost its relevance; it is still in fashion and draws particular attention to the designers, as means of giving endless scope for creativity. Despite the impracticality of white customers prefer it, for various reasons: for some people it’s a way of surprising and shocking, for the others it’s a way to to abstract from the outside world, hiding in his perfectly white space.
Talking about white interiors, we are talking about white only conditionally. White has many shades and nuances: ivory, warm milk, cotton and flax, the color of pearl, snow and cream… Play with different shades of white will help to create a sophisticated scheme, which is not to be monotonous. Not to mention the fact that white is the perfect backdrop for the various shades of coffee, terracotta and wood. These combinations make the house cozy, warm atmosphere, give the interior a special nobility.
White-gray scale may seem to be too cold, but there is no more refined interior than those that are solved with the use of white and various shades of gray and blue.
