Tub & Shower Faucets

Tub & Shower Faucets

It seems that manufacturers are providing more options than ever for every part of your home, and tub and shower faucets are no exception. With a range of styles, finishes and colors to choose from, you can take what was once a simple functional necessity and turn it into an eye-catching mix of style and utility. While tubs and showers offer different options from which to choose, the materials, colors and finish options are generally the same for each. Regardless of which style you choose to install, look for features that will keep you and your family safe by preventing scalding. Keep the following questions in mind as you search for a new tub or shower faucet:
Style, Construction and Safety

Choosing a faucet style is largely dependent upon two factors — your previous faucet configuration (if you’re replacing an old one) and your personal taste. You’ll want to make sure it complements your sink faucet and other bathroom fixtures to create a stylish appearance. Take the overall theme and design of your home into account as well. Just as a sleek, modern faucet wouldn’t look quite right in a classical home, a classic Roman faucet may not look good in a contemporary setting. Once you’ve settled on a style, select a finish and color that you’ll be happy with and look into the various anti-scald valves and devices available.

Tub Faucets: Tub faucets may be mounted on the wall or directly to the tub itself. There are also freestanding models for certain applications. Styles range from sleek single-handle faucets to elegant two-handle Roman faucets. Tub faucets are often referred to as “tub fillers” because of the volume of water they expel. Wall- and deck-mounted faucets are generally concealed, meaning that only the spout and handles are exposed. Freestanding faucets are often used with clawfoot and antique tubs. The pipes come straight out of the ground, and brackets are used to secure the faucet to either the tub or wall for support. Some tub faucets may come equipped with handsprayers for more localized washing.
Shower Faucets: Shower faucets are wall-mounted, but they can be tub-mounted in tub/shower combos. They may feature one, two or three handles. If the faucet is being installed into a shower-only unit, having only one handle will make it easy to adjust the temperature with one hand while holding soap or shampoo in the other. In general, shower faucets are less decorative than tub-only faucets.
