Scandinavian Style of Interior Design
The characteristic feature of Scandinavian interior is the abundance of natural wood. Scandinavian designers and craftsmen successfully combine traditional methods of woodworking with modern technology. The most popular type of finish of walls, floor and ceiling is the paneling. For floor covering whitewashed floorboards or parquet are applied. If, formerly, the boards were scraped to obtain the desired degree of whiteness, now whitening is achieved by special technology.
Scandinavian interior implies simplicity and naturalness in the finishing, as well as the absence of all kinds of frills and texture on the ceiling and walls. Therefore, the ceiling and walls are often finished with wood, usual plaster, wallpaper, or they just combine wood with brickwork. Scandinavians very carefully watch that the materials were natural and had a natural origin.
For rooms in Scandinavian style both cold colors and warm colors can be suitable, for example, red, blue, white, cream, yellow, beige, terra cotta, gray, olive-green. Bright colors are mainly used to create certain accents in the interior. It can be colorful mats made of patchwork techniques, blankets, decorative pillows, woven mats, rugs and other textiles. The most popular is the striped fabric into the cage. In addition, tissue should be natural (wool, cotton, flax).
Lack of sunlight and natural light had significant impact on the design of window apertures. In the Scandinavian homes people don’t use heavy curtains, made of dense tissue. Conversely, long curtains of light or translucent fabric well miss the daylight, creating cozy and warm ambiance in the room.
