Roche Bobois and it’s Nonstandard Approach to Furniture
This year, the famous fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier represents a highly original autumn collection. The fact is that this time, Gauthier serves as a furniture designer, creating his own line of interior items for the French furniture house Roche Bobois, which celebrates its 50 anniversary. In honor of this date, the collection was named in a long way – Jean Paul Gaultier Pour Roche Bobois Paris.
In the 90s, Gautier already tried the role of a furniture designer, then invented chair in the form of Roman chariots for the brand Via. However, the new project is much bigger and, per se, it is a complete application for a permanent presence of Gauthier name in interior design.
Jean-Paul is true to his unique style, which represents a mixture of a variety of components: shocking behavior, glamour, a collage of different styles and cultures, as well as a certain percentage of irony and mischief. A classic sofa Mah Johng, created by the designer Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois in 1971, Gaultier has turned into a collage of drawings and prints of very different, but close to his subjects matter. Here you can meet satin pillows with lace, striped vest with red pompoms familiar to everyone, and prints with humorous names in the spirit of Gautier – Dollar Bill, Tattoo, Kiss and etc.
Besides the modular sofa, the collection includes a pair of wheelchairs Ben Hur, covered with noble velour. The designer also put some other items at the wheel set – the screen, a small wardrobe, as well as the fashionable dressers, made up of suitcases.
For the promotion of the new line, Gauthier, together with Roche Bobois, have created interiors for the famous apartment Elle Decoration, located in the Paris area The Trocadero. Previously, the interiors of these apartments were decorated by Martin Marzhiela and Christian Lacroix.
Working on the interior, Gauthier took into consideration the familiar themes, acquired from his own collections: the hall is completely designed in marine striped; living room is like a jungle, and the bedroom – a glamorous satin boudoir beauty.
