Making the Most of Spring Cleaning
‘Tis the season for “Spring Cleaning”, that annual ritual in which we all try to shake things up to put winter behind us and organize our rooms to reflect the warmer, more optimistic, season. Redecorating in Spring can seem quite the chore, albeit a necessary one for many of us. However, it doesn’t need to be such a hassle; we’ll go over a few ways to alter your living space without spending too much time or money.
Many of us look toward upgrading our furniture this time of year. But instead of buying new pieces, why not simply create some add-ons yourself? For example, some beds, particularly platform beds, might not come with headboards. If this happens to be the case, you might be tempted to purchase one that will fit your bed, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
There are a few ways to create your own headboard. We’ve found that what a lot of people will do is attach a standard door resting on its sides to the top of the bed frame. This is a simple solution, as a door lying on its side is a perfect-sized headboard for any king or queen sized bed. Once repainted and attached, you can easily decorate the new “headboard” to whatever your heart desires. Or you can make it even easier by just creating a painted headboard. In this case, all you have to do is measure and paint a column on the wall behind your bed, and then accessorize with accent pillows and other bedding knick-knacks. What you have in the end is an instant headboard that won’t cost much at all.
You can also alter the appearance of your room just be rearranging the furniture you already have in place, as this can help make the room appear “new” without having to purchase additional furniture. This works especially well in the bedroom. For example, now that you don’t have to worry about winter drafts, consider moving your bed close to a window to take advantage of the summer wind.
The best way to spruce up a room is to simply repaint it. People tend to underestimate how much a new coat of paint can make a room look more attractive even if it is the same shade. But with the changing of the seasons, you might want to change the color, especially if you have white walls. Brighter shades will help to compliment the season better, and can also go a long way in brightening the mood, especially if the room it is being used on doesn’t get much natural light.
These are just a few ways that you can get the most out of your spring cleaning without having to break the bank. There certainly are a lot of other quick, cheap options that will suit any living situation; when it comes to spring decorating creativity truly knows no bounds!
