Major characteristics of the interior in Scandinavian style
Scandinavian style of the interior is simple, modern and quite affordable in our reality. In every apartment, even with very limited living space, you can create a very cozy, bright and clean interior, which does not require huge expenses. This style that is so popular today in many countries of the world appeared in northern Europe in the mid-20th century. Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway are countries with fairly harsh climate, long winter period and short daylight hours. Accordingly, there is not so much sunlight and heat. Therefore, the concept of Scandinavian design is filled with light, air, purity of line and forms.
Despite the variety of possible interiors or in Scandinavian style, there are several major characteristics. This will help you develop your own design in your apartment.
So the basic principle is the preservation and enhancement of natural daylight penetrating through the window, which means no heavy curtains, thick dark fabrics and multilayer curtain. There may be no curtains at all or else they may be made of lightweight material. In the daytime, even the existing curtains are usually shifted to the side to let as much sunlight as possible. The preferable major color of the walls and other surfaces is white or other very light colors. Thus the space becomes light and filled with pure light. At the same time one of the characteristic is the use of different wall decors in the form of panels with bright wallpaper, souvenirs and books on the shelves, photos, posters, paintings with and without frames.
In the interior mostly natural materials are used. The most favorite and common material for finishing is wood – painted in bright colors or minimally processed. It is present almost everywhere – floor, ceiling, walls, furniture and various accessories.
Another highlight of Scandinavian interiors is bright color accents. After all, during a long colorless winter we need at least memories of hot, sunny summer, rich in odors and colors. Therefore, a variety of bright and colorful accessories such as rugs, pillows, upholstery of sofas and chairs, lampshades of lamps, book covers, towels, etc. is used. One thing to remember is that the decor should not be too much, just a few strokes, so as not to overwhelm the space.
Minimalism and pithiness of the interior in Scandinavian style suggest a minimum of things and furniture. A light table and a pair of thin chairs, several air shelves, a small rug, a cozy sofa and armchairs are welcome. There should be a feeling of spaciousness in the interior, even though it is a little 14 sqm room. The issue about the placement and storage of numerous things is usually easily solved – through the allocation of premises or cubbyhole under the dressing “room”. If there is not such a possibility, then hidden niches, closed cabinets and shelves are set in the residential area.
The last important characteristic of Scandinavian interiors is their functionality, simplicity and affordability. The design is perfectly adapted for comfortable living. Different folding mechanisms are widely used to unload the space, for example, folding beds, folding tables, etc. The style is lively, positive and not pretentious at all. This is a perfect choice for modern city apartments!
Scandinavian style of the interior will look great in the bedroom, where the main piece of furniture is the bed. A nice wooden double bed with orthopedic mattress is the guarantee of healthy sleep and rest. Therefore, it is better to buy a quality double bed, made of natural materials.
