Kitchen Design: Kitchen is Designed and Decorated as a Ship
The designer of this project of the kitchen interios is Sandi Holland. Here is what she tells about the project:
Simplicity is the essential concept of this kitchen. It is an old house constructed with the project of Polja Rej, and I wanted the accessories not to overload the architecture in this interior. Therefore it was decided to apply only natural materials, whenever possible – laconic forms and straight lines.
In the concept some citing of a sea theme was used. When you are in the kitchen the curve wooden ceiling makes you feel as on a ship. Such ceiling became possible when the second floor was demolished, which sued to be a guest bedroom the owners no longer used. Thus the kitchen became two-lighted space.
The designer says that they had an idea of making V-shaped beams on a ceiling to create effect of a ship interior. Besides, there was no desire to use gypsum cardboard but wood. Very high premise has turned out, sideways from which there is a balcony on the second level, to which the owner’s bedroom has an exit. The designer considers that is good to have an opportunity to look at an interior not from down to up but from up to down.
Color solution of this kitchen is almost monochrome: white-chocolate. Wooden parquet tiles softens this monochromaticism of the color scale with the warm shade a bit. The big kitchen space makes a whole with the dining room space, as interroom doors between them are absent. These two separate parts seem to flow from one to another. The atmosphere is cosier in the dining room, – wallpapers on the walls and a low ceiling with white cross-section beams.
Breadboard models of the ships and wattled baskets from a thin oak, which is very strong are used as kitchen décor. The designer says that such baskets were used by seamen on ships during swimming. There are bamboo rolled curtains for the windows.
