Interior Philosophy

In modern residential interiors, podium is a big step height of 20-35 centimeters. At higher drop if the ceiling height allows designers develop two – three tiers. As a rule, stages are erected in small rooms or in the interiors with redundant space, and are divided into decorative and technical.

Podiums are ideal when to fix the geometry of the room: they can be used to “shorten” unnecessarily elongated room breaking it up into zones, or with the help of circular or angular podium give a more intimate view of the large square room. Furthermore, the podium saves a lot of space: a bedroom, study, dining room, nursery, recreation area, a winter garden, aquatic systems, wardrobe and so on can be arranged on an eminence.

The design of the podiums can be monolithic and wireframe. Monolithic podiums are manufactured using concrete or cement-sand screeds; therefore, they are durable and moisture. This podium can be revet with tiles or mosaics. Wireframe podiums are wooden or metal frames one or two layers of which are stacked plywood or board. These constructions are easy and more functional, just as they can held chest of drawers, shelves, hide an entire bed. However, remember: monolithic podiums are usually overweight (not all overlap withstand such a load), and restrict access to the bricked up communications. To frame construction ir is necessary to provide additional rigidity, otherwise you can just crack the podium under the weight of objects located on it.

In the nursery the podium is used for the arrangement of sleeping area (beds), or area for study (table, wardrobe, shelves, chairs). In the second case the podium construction can hide boxes for toys, clothing, bed linen and even the bed. But the decision to construct a tiered floor in nursery must be taken with caution, for reasons of the same security, especially in rooms designed for kids.

At a teenager’s room the podium, however, fits perfectly. The podium can make a comfortable niche for get-togethers with friends in the apartment of a young lady. Woven blankets and pillows in style patchwork, wall niches – cork panels as upholstery will look fine. A desk with a computer, sometimes a wardrobe is also placed at a nursery.

In the bedroom of the adult family members podium is set as a couch for the bed (so-called bed-podium), as well as for bed linen cupboard and bedside tables. Mattress at a podium serves as the bed and inside the frame the niches are arranged horizontally and/or with vertical access. The top part of the podium is used as pedestals. It will look nice to embed light sources at the ends of steps: point-source lamp, fluorescent or neon-protected color or frosted glass, soft light scattering.
