Interior Design: Paintings
Where to hang a painting? Let’s consider the basic principles of correct placement of paintings in the interior.
Very often in the houses of our friends we come across pictures which are painted with oil, watercolor, pencil sketch. These may be reproductions of famous paintings, or works of local artists, or at times the creations of the owners of the apartment. It is immediately noticeable how much the painting is in harmony with the interior and whether it corresponds with the spirit of the room.
Where and what kind of paintings to hang? Undoubtedly, the reproduction of “The Ninth Wave” by Aivazovsky would look inappropriate in the kitchen, unless, of course, your cozy corner is organized as a ship’s cabin. A still life would be the most suitable for the kitchen.
A landscape would be appropriate for the living room. First of all, a suitable painting will decorate your interior, and secondly, it will add style of elegance.
The pictures painted by masters of avant-garde genre look very original, they will make you reflect on art. Depending on your mood, each time the content of the picture will be filled with a new meaning. However, you’d better not hang such a picture in the living room or bedroom as these are areas for rest, where people want to relax instead of thinking about the hidden meanings: avant-garde will annoy them. A painting in the avant-garde genre would be mostly suitable in the study or, for example, in a hookah room.
If you are a lucky owner of a collection of paintings and want to hang out all the works on the walls, remember that the classic design of the interior in your home would best fit for the ancient works. High ceilings, high quality wooden furniture, tapestry upholstery, stucco – “dress” a work of art in a suitable frame and you will get a luxurious result.
Portraits should be hung exclusively in living rooms and studies. It is practically unreal and just silly to hang portraits in the classical style in other interiors.
If you are a supporter of minimalism, then show preference for abstraction. Paintings in a similar style are perfectly combined with the plain interior. Dressed in appropriate frameworks, they will add life and colors to your strict micro-cosmos.
