German Style for Modern Design
On one hand the creators of Art Nouveau strive for rational designs using concrete, glass, ceramics, tile, etc. On the other hand, the architects of modern Germany and Austria, Italy and France appear to wish to overcome the rough rationalism of the construction equipment.
They appealed to the whimsical decoration and symbols in the ornamentation scenery in paintings, sculpture, interiors and facades, to the bending and sliding shapes and lines.
The tortuous pattern of metal binding and a stairway railing, balconies, curves of the roof, curved shape of openings, a stylized pattern of wavy seaweed and female heads with flowing hair, were often combined with ease of processed forms of historical styles of the past (mainly the Middle East, or style – bay windows, Roman turrets, etc.), giving facilities a romantic character …
