Design Original Pumpkin-Lanterns on Halloween!
Despite the “horrible” characteristics of the holiday, children get really great pleasure from Halloween. So why not enjoy yourself on the eve of 31 October and meet the evil holiday with full forces. Halloween is not only an excellent opportunity to become better acquainted with the ancient culture and traditions of other peoples, but also to create a home atmosphere of mystery, magic and fun. On this day you can have a party in fancy dresses with horrid “contests” for adults and children, decorate the house with garlands of paper ghosts, autumn leaves, knitted spiders, scary masks, brooms … flight of imagination is unlimited! But the main character of this holiday was and remains the pumpkin lantern (jack-o’-lantern). Let’s talk about the techniques of making lanterns and about their types.
First, you need to buy a clean, flat, yellow Pumpkin. We advise you to buy it at least 2 weeks before the holiday because the price of this vegetable on the eve of Halloween flies up to heavens. To get started choose a convenient place to work. It is desirable, to do it on a low table or stable wide bench. Prepare a garbage bag for pumpkin seeds, they are very sticky, so when you work, be careful not to soil the carpet, tablecloth, etc. Ingeniously, you need to cut with kitchen knives: wide, with a sharp tip and small, to cut small pieces. Pumpkin pre-wash is not necessary, it can spoil. The most appropriate place for your lantern will be the patio, porch (if you, certainly, live in a private home) or windowsill. The thing is that firstly, the lamp according to tradition, must be visible from the street, and secondly, the aroma of pumpkin can attract insects. Remember, after the feast the pumpkin should be thrown out. Don’t ever eat it! As a rule, this desire often occurs in young children.
