Colorful Space Design According To Marc Newson
As far as the designer Marc Newson remembers himself, he has always been fascinated by space. During his interviews, to the question what he would like to design the most, he replied, “Space Station”.
And now, he had an excellent opportunity to make, as the designer says, “the first significant step” towards achieving his goal. He developed the interior of aircraft that is half plane, half rocket for a company EADS Astrium. The company plans to make 3-hour tourist flights into space. The expected ticket price per passenger ranges from 200 to 265 thousand dollars. The first flight is planned for 2012. Presentation of the aircraft was held recently in Paris.
“I had a serious task to solve”, – says the designer, – “both from a technical side and in terms of ergonomics, but for the most difficult part was that we were dealing with a number of things, which had not previously existed. I felt as though I am standing at the source of origin of aeronautics”.
The designer created interior simple in style and content, making the emphasis on creating optimum conditions to ensure that passengers are able to fully enjoy their stellar travel, see the earth, and feel those few minutes as they spend in weightlessness.
The most attention was paid to the armchairs, which were to be not only compact and light, but also comfortable both during the traditional flight and during flight in a vertical position. As a result, Newson invented an armchair in a hammock, installed on a rotating base, allowing the chair to change position with changes in the angle of flight. Known for his passion for bright colors, Marc Newson chose a bright yellow color for space seating, which is perfectly matching with the basic white color and gray interior details.
