Ceramic Tiles Can Emphasize Your Aesthetic Taste
Ceramic tile is considered the “queen” of roofing materials. Its extraordinary aesthetic characteristics and reliability of operation deduce the material in the first place by popularity among designers and owners of luxury homes.
It is believed that the ceramic tiles were invented by the ancient Romans, who used clay plates for the roof of their houses. However, modern ceramic tile is very different from those materials which were used by our ancestors.
Technology of production of ceramic tiles changed and improved during the time of its manufacture and usage, but the principles remain the same as in ancient Rome. First, raw materials, ceramic clay is mixed until it becomes smooth. Our ancestors used to add water to clay, but modern technology involves the addition of special plasticizers, which make the tiles more plastic and facilitates the molding process.
In the second stage the tiles are formed. You can do this in two ways, ribbon and stamping. In the first case the desired shape of the ribbon is formed of the clay, which is then cut into equal plates. In the second case clay is put in special forms and pressed together. In the third stage the tiled tiles are baked in special ovens at 1000 degrees.
The resultant tiles are very durable. The average lifespan, according to the manufacturers, is 150 years. This roofing material is resistant to sunlight, moisture, it is steady to heavy loads and biological influence (presence of birds).
With regard to the aesthetic component, the modern manufacturing methods allow for virtually works of art. If you place the clay in the form of a certain design, you can get tiles with patterns and in unusual shapes.
If before firing you put a layer of special clay daub or icing on the plate, then, when heated, they will fuse, forming a dense layer of shiny, resembling glass.
If the surface of this coating is painted, it will not only get a bright and unusual color, but will wash and shine different highlights, as well. Depending on the type of glaze tiles not only get matte or glossy, but spotty, speckled, with the effect of “old”, too.
The appearance and characteristics of ceramic tiles allow us to lay them in their various kinds and even spread patterns on the roof. The combination of several shades of one color can give the roof the effect of spillovers that will change depending on the light.
Ceramic tile is a roofing material with character. Despite the rather large weight of the material and some complexity of its handling during installation, the result completely changes the appearance of any building. The real high qualified ceramic tile can emphasize impeccable aesthetic taste and high social status of the householder.
