Among the fashionable trends in the interior design, built-in furniture has become particularly popular. Despite the seeming simplicity of the concept, not all consumers are well represented, what is built-in furniture. What are its main features?

You can quite often hear the word “built-in furniture” in conversations. And more often the speaker did not even think about the meaning of the word. After all, the notion does not reveal the secret: what, where and why that something is built. Somehow, people associate it with a cupboard-closet. Although the closets can be different – built-in or not. What is the cardinal difference?

Let’s start with the first delusion: built-in furniture – this is not a special and mysterious kind of furniture, but only a way to place it in the room. And it is strictly according to an individual project. Therefore, the promise to sell you a ready built-in furniture, at least should be alerted, but by the highest standards, it’s like to cast a shade on the professionalism of manufacturers. The fundamental difference from any other furniture is the lack of frame. It certainly does not mean that the design miraculously hanging in a space, but only says that the walls and ceiling play the role of the frame. Does this make sense? Yes, of course, otherwise would not have been general enthusiasm to build anything and everything: cabinets, beds, technology.

The first and most important advantage is that this is the maximum ergonomics. Are there any reefs and shortcomings? Of course there are. How can it be managed without a spoon of tar? Let’s start from the contrary, i.e. with the shortcomings. The first and the main one is by giving some place to the built-in furniture in the house, you deprive yourself of possible permutations. Option to drag the cupboard from one corner to another, for the sake of diversity and change in the interior will not work here. Therefore, before drilling walls and building something, try to answer honestly, what is your insertions: fashion chip (the neighbor doesn’t have this one) or a necessity?

The second drawback is the readiness of walls as the role of the shell. The first thing is safety. If the walls are covered with gypsum board, then to install a huge wardrobe to thin partition is not possible on many technological reasons. In this case, we have to attach it to the supporting wall at home. The second point is the cover. You must agree that any, even the most cheerful whitewashed inside the cabinet, is not compatible with the clothes that are in it. It’s up to you, what it will be: wallpaper, paint or an option at your discretion, the important thing is that you have thought about it before the installation of the furniture, not after it.

Finally, the third one, it’s not exactly a drawback; the price. We should immediately disappoint those, who believed that the time saved on the frame follows DSP in “facilitating” the value of the finished design. Built-in furniture is not a cheap pleasure, unless, of course, you’re not going to do everything with your own hands out of materials at your hand. However, it is worth warning that, unlike other furniture built-in furniture requires knowledge of production technology. Otherwise, your design will not live long. And this concerns not only the usual cupboards, but also other furniture, such as beds. In general, think carefully before you do something, in that case you will imagine the situation with the built-in furniture.
