BD Barcelona Design Created Furniture Salvador Dali
On January 23 it was 20 years since the death of Salvador Dali, the great Catalan, whose rich fantasy makes the art to have more and more new fans around the world. Being known as a surrealist painter, Dali was also a talented architect and designer, witnessed of which becomes many of our compatriots every year visiting the theater-museum of Salvador Dali in Figueres. As a designer, Dalí took part in several projects, but his architectural and design heritage is not so rich, compared to, say, with almost two thousand paintings, created by the artist.
Yet his interest in the subject design is undeniable, as confirmed by numerous sketches for interior, which Dali would like to see part of his bizarre world. Most of these works belong to the 30th year of the last century, when the artist meets with the famous designer Jean-Michel Frank, for which he created some sketches of furniture. Among them, for example, designs of chair and table “Leda”, the motif of which the artist borrowed from his own painting of “Woman with head of roses” (1935). Extravagant and at the same time very delicate objects invented by a great master, could be quite possible that they never would have seen the light, if in the late 80-ies of the Spanish company Bd Barcelona Design has considered the feasibility of brilliant ideas of Dali as designer. Out of the many drawings were selected only a few of the most pressing, which formed the basis for the collection by the company BD. The design by Dali was surprisingly modern: the artist anticipated many of the ideas advanced designers 80 years, concluding symbolic overtones in the original form, at the same time not forgetting the direct fixing of the object.
By the twentieth anniversary of the death of Salvador Dali, BD reissued some items of the master in the new “black” design, calling the collection of Black Label Collection. Unlike the previous “gold” version made of brass, a new collection of objects is less shocking and more consistent with the aesthetics of modern interiors. As the designer Oscar Tusquets says, who was the leadership in creating the collection: “Relying on my experience with the Maestro, I feel that this collection will meet the approval, and I am absolutely sure that the Gala would prefer this version of the multi-color”. For the manufacture of furniture for Black Label Collection the following were used: painted wood lime, greening brass, darkened gold leaf. The egg on Leda table made of black marble Marquina. The collection was released a limited edition and it consists of 105 items: – exactly the same age would have been the artist this year.
