America’s “Most Beautiful” Appliance?

Some would argue that the Electrochef is so modern that it has been able to withstand the test of time, taste and style. With its smooth curves, and sleek look, this 1920 design, all-in-one kitchen appliance, has captured the attention of some. Collectors of anything vintage would shell out as much as their wallets could offer in order to possess a piece of history, while others may wonder what anyone sees in this compact piece of …art? Sure, why not.
The Electrochef comes with “accessible-heightoven, a 4-spiral stove and storage space set down below,” and is meant for small spaces. Unfortunately, it weighs around 500 lbs. And yet advertisement for this product did back in the 1930’s what it does best now, convince you that you can’t live without it. Here is an excerpt, via New Deal Network, of the Electrochef pitch.
“A symphony of graceful, flowing lines, gleaming porcelain, sparkling metal! Completely divorced from every tradition of old-fashioned range design, Electrochef is so genuinely modern, so thoroughly in good taste as to become “show-piece” in even the most pretentious kitchen! Electrochef is more than worthy of its position as ‘America’s most beautiful appliance!'”
