In contemporary interior design gone are the days for putting the bed in the corner or along the wall. Now most models of beds imply perpendicular installation concerning the wall. And in order to effectively allocate the sleeping area, many are trying to decorate the headboard of the bed, while leaving its footboard without proper attention.

Why draw the footboard?

First of all, the correct execution of the footboard makes the room more comfortable (which is actually especially necessary in the bedroom), and its interior – more original and complete. Dresser, ottoman, or any other piece of furniture, used as a decoration for the footboard will become an indispensable element for storing things. And if you set a comfortable console-table, it may even fully replace the working space for those who work at home. So what is the best way to complement the bedside zone?

Stools and poufs

This is the easiest way to draw the footboard. At least, it will not require huge expenses. Besides, poufs and stools look very compact, which is very appropriate in small bedrooms. The huge advantage of this solution lies in its practicality: as the bed is the holy of holies, sitting down on it in casual clothes (this refers especially to strangers, even friends) is not desirable: a comfortable ottoman or pouf next to the bed will be most welcome. By the way, now many poufs are made with hollow inside, allowing to store various little things inside.

Banquette

Banquette is a low elongated bench. It can be used both as a seat, and as a soft, comfortable table for favorite magazines let’s say. Such an addition may be an imperceptible addition to bed, in the same color as the bed or with a brighter and striking accent – the choice is yours.

Chest

Original, stylish, comfortable – this is how such kind of solution to design the footboard in the bedroom may be characterized. And do not think that it would be appropriate only in rooms decorated in Renaissance, Rococo or classical style. Romantic Provence can also imply a decorative-functional item, such as a chest. The same can be said about eco style, though here the chest should be as concise and braided as possible. If you like to decorate your bed with lots of pillows and cushions that you don’t know where to put when sleeping, then this option may be ideal for your bedroom.

Table or chest of drawers

It makes no sense to talk about the ergonomics of these things – here everything is clear: a table can be a convenient place to work and a chest of drawers – a storage for clothes. The most important thing is to wisely choose the size ratio of bed and furniture, decorating the footboard. Otherwise, too massive chest may look inappropriate in the company of an elegant and visually light bed.
